Greener Arena Improvers Certification for Uber Arena

Uber Arena are delighted to announce that it has achieved the Greener Arena Improvers Certification 2024.

The certification was achieved following a rigorous assessment process by not-for-profit sustainability specialists A Greener Future (AGF). The assessment involves detailed analysis of areas of sustainability such as transport, energy and power, waste, water usage, local environment, CO2 and food and beverages and involves an on site visit by qualified AGF assessors.

Improvers signify great strides on the green arena journey, with positive actions and improvements that show Uber Arena exhibits a significant engagement with the process of reducing negative environmental and social impacts, and enhancing positive impacts.

"The Uber Arena in Berlin isn't just a world-class venue for concerts, sports, and entertainment—it's also mindful of its sustainability! Here’s just some of the ways the arena is reducing its environmental impact:

Energy Efficiency: Full LED lighting in public areas and sports facilities, plus reduced energy use with advanced cooling systems and an on-site gas-powered combined heat and power plant.

Green Roofs & Regional Food: The arena and parking lot roofs are greened, while food offerings prioritise regional and seasonal products to cut down on transport emissions.

Reusable Systems: Drinks are served in reusable Ökocups washed in-house, supporting a closed-loop recycling system.

Plastic & Waste Reduction: Single-use plastic items like straws and lids are eliminated, snack trays are made from recycled cardboard, and 94% of waste is recycled.

Eco-Friendly Travel: Guests are encouraged to use public transport, bike, or carpool to events.

Through its charity initiative Anschutz hilft e.V., the arena supports local organisations, including homeless services, cultural projects, and youth programs, fostering a stronger community.
